Volume knob PD705LT

Postby rm05 » Thu Jul 28, 2016 2:59 pm

I bought a used PD705LT and the volume knob seems to not have a lot of resistance to it considering this is a commercial set. It is easy to accidentally catch it when carrying, which is annoying, and it is so 'light' I can rotate it with one finger - I know Motorolas need quite some effort to rotate their volume knobs.

I wondered if anyone can confirm whether this is normal behaviour. I assume the volume control on the other Hyteras are similar as the design of the controls looks the same.

I found under the keypad settings in the CPS that the volume knob can bet set to lock (along with the keys / channel knob if you wish), so this is how I have now set the radio up. Won't have to worry about catching the dials now when portable. 8-)

On some portables with a "free wheeling" knob, a small washer on the spindle adds enough resistance to "slow" the movement down..
