It shares the same site as GB3LW, on London's Southbank area

The London Studios or The South Bank Studios (also known as The London Television Centre and Kent House) in Waterloo, Central London is a television studio complex formerly owned by London Weekend Television. The studios are located in Central London and are situated on the South Bank next to The IBM Building and the Royal National Theatre. The building is set on 2.5 acres of land and is 24 floors high.

In and around London the prime radio sites for example are on TV masts - Crystal Palace, Alexandra Palace. High rise buildings - London Studios, Trellick Tower. Hilltop sites - Harrow Church, Egham Hill.

The Shard would be an ideal spot, trouble is you would not get many aerials on it's pointed top, whereas you could get loads on top of a flat roofed building and in London roof aerial space is at a premium..

MP is co-sited with GB3LW, which I always assumed was short for London Weekend Television. LW used to be known as the cabbies' repeater, because various (properly licensed) taxi drivers used it to chat to each other as they pootled around the capital (it is an excellent for Central London), but LW has been down for extended periods of late and after one such hiatus they never came back. At the end of last year, which was when I moved away from London, it was practically unused.

If MP's coverage is anything like LW's, it will have a catchment area with a good couple of million people in it during the daytime, so it should be a really useful resource.

Really look forward to this coming on air. I am occasionally pedestrian mobile in London and always take a handheld with me, GB7NS and GB7AK do provide some impressive coverage, but it is not quite good enough for pedestrian use, especially in Soho / Oxford Street where I normally am.

GB3LW is unfortunately fair quiet, but on my occasional (2-3 times a month) visits to London I have spoken to about 5-6 different people, and all but one was using a DMR handheld! So should be some user base when GB7MP comes on the air.

Sad news, the NoV holder for GB7MP, Mike Hawkins G8WOY died on Monday 6th June at Hillingdon Hospital after a short unexpected illness.
