GB7RR via washing pole 4 ele yagi 40 miles

Postby M0RCX » Wed Jul 22, 2015 1:14 pm

recently out and about at a festival and knew full well I would struggle with a signal.

I purchased this 4 ele yagi tuned to 439mhz from the Ukraine via ebay for £14

Running 1w I was able to get in to GB7RR quite easily and the expensive mast is a telescoping clothes prop (£5) pinched from the wife.

Great idea and really like it.

Some times the simplest things are the best way to go.

I will have to keep an eye out for a beam like that it looks nice and compact and could be nice and easy to setup if out camping etc and only working through one repeater hmmmm have given me ideas now lol :D

At the slightly less budget part of the spectrum SotaBeams do a dual-band 145/435MHz packable beam antenna.

I have no experience of how well or otherwise it works, but I do own one of their packable dipoles which appears to work quite well.
