I've been trying to do on the tests on the DV4 Mini and Raspberry Pi 3 and there is no test reflector 4408.

The changes will only be announced on the 1st of May but many have been made already.

New DV4MF2 software is to be issued shortly.

Why change the whole reflectors? Why not just add a couple of new ones?

I am guessing the Repeaters will connect to 4401 in May?

Nope - according to the GB7DD website, GB7DD and GB7EE will connect to 4405 then for long qso's people can move to 4415.

Personally too many reflectors becomes like D-Star which I gave up on after 3 months - it's playing hide and seek as people are too wide spread out

Below is taken from the website.

GB7DD operates on two digital time slots for licenced radio amateur use only on the World-Wide BrandMeister Network:

Time Slot 1 is for World-Wide, USA, Europe, and Local.

Time Slot 2 is for TG9 which is linked to Reflector 4405 as of 1st May 2016 which will link all Scottish TG850 DMR BrandMeister repeaters (currently GB7DD Dundee and GB7EE Edinburgh) together.

Please remember that repeaters are primarily for mobile users and you are asked not to hog the repeater or Talkgroup/Reflector. Please use the Talkgroup with the lowest number of external connections to reduce the number of repeaters being utilised by your QSO – for example don’t sit on Time Slot 2 if you are chatting to someone local, instead use TG9 Local on Slot 1.

Also, don’t sit on TG9 Local on Slot 1 for hours on end as you stop anyone else from making use of World-Wide from being accessible.

Likewise sitting chatting for long periods on TG9 Local Slot 2 will stop anyone else from making use of the TG850 Scottish Regional link

You are correct discussions have taken place between myself the keeper of GB7DD and the keeper of GB7EE to streamline the number of Talkgroups/Reflectors to make the operation of the system more clear cut and easier for users to understand.

Slot 2 has been changed to only have one Talkgroup and that is TG9 with Reflector 4405 allocated to it by default which will allow users to interact more easily with those using DV-Mega and DV4Mini connections. Reflector 4415 being created as a "chat" area for folk to QSY to rather than tying up both Dundee and Edinburgh repeaters which will become more important as the number of DMR repeaters in Scotland increases.

Slot 1 has been earmarked for four straightforward connects; TG1 World-Wide, TG2 USA, TG3 Europe, and TG9 Local.

This we feel makes a more sensible and easier to understand system.

If nobody is interested in disconnecting the default Reflector 4405 and connecting instead a different one then that is fine. If anyone does wish to try out different Reflectors then they can. Reflector 4405 will automatically reconnect to TG9 after a short period of inactivity.

The graphic I have created should hopefully explain:

Martin,

what about the rest of the UK? Stefan wouldn't say anything just advising of a 1st May announcement. The changes to the reflectors on the DV4MF2 software and the update on your website started to confuse people. Now we have a reflector list and not a talk group list. And do I presume TG850 is no longer in use?

So I'm now really confused.

I'm on EE. How do I talk to my pal on GB7NS? It used to be we could just QSY to a user-activated talkgroup and just tie up two repeaters for our QSO (you can't really do better than that for polite resource use!), but now I can't even work out how to call him. Use the EU-wide TG?

Rupert, you switch EE to 4400, call him and agree to move to another free reflector, either 4415 or another free reflector. You both then connect to that reflector.

The only change is that you use reflectors rather than TGs and this is why more reflectors have been made available.

Stefan
