TYT MD-380 - Mic Gain - Request For Knowledge

Postby MOSMM » Wed Oct 21, 2015 4:43 pm

Without getting a thread bogged down with reasons why or reasons why not... can someone tell me how to increase the Mic Gain in the MD-380 please.

I understand there isn't a setting in the current programming software.
I also gather that the hidden service menu doesn't have a setting of any use for it.

So... physical mods ?...

I have seen details of changing the audio pitch via SMT component value replacement, so someone out there is modding these things.
Wondering if anyone knows if it is possible (and how to) increase the Transmit AF level on this radio via component replacement? Please share.

Or simpler solutions...For instance my baefang needed the microphone hole in the case opened up to a larger diameter.

I have already increased my own voice level and am conscious of speaking directly into (and lips on) the speaker grill else the tx audio level drops off significantly.

I have experienced similar issues and found much improved TX audio using an external fist microphone. They are widely available and not expensive.

There is a service menu that you can access. Details on how to do that, including cautions, are on the TYT Yahoo Groups site.

This is a link to the thread.....https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TYT-TYTERA/conversations/topics/1274

Never tried it....

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have an external mic on order and am keen to try it. Brill on the service menu link/detail. I had missed that post and I got the feeling from previous threads that they didn't want to share that info  The component mod I was on about is on mods.dk
Cheers.

Do not believe the 0 to 127 analogue/digi mic values in the service menu actually have any effect / not implemented. Be interested to learn if someone knows any different.

Link to a post with a zip file showing a component change diagram with suggested values to deal with various audio issues including gain.

Funny enough just seen that (that same guy emailed it directly to me, its same mod as posted on mod.dk).

But is it a mod for mic gain ?

It says ...

If transmit voice is too sharp, change 471P to 102P/103P/223P/473P
If receive voice is too sharp, change 683P to 823P/104P
If receive voice is too low, change 82 K to 100k/120k

I'd be expecting one to say "If Transmit voice is too low, change...."

Noted....Looks like it is the 'fist mic mod' that is he prime solution at the moment.

Have you tried to use the echo server to hear what you actually sound like on the network?

Wish my fist Mic would arrive already :D

What is the echo server?

I am in Wiltshire UK, so only have access to SW Cluster from my location so if it's MARC related then I probably am unable to try.

Thanks for the replies and help by the way.

I know the post has since been deleted, but thanks for the info on the echo server. Sadly access to such is not available via the SWCluster. Maybe if I park up at a DX spot I may access elsewhere with a gainy antenna.... effort.

Have now obtained two external mics, not much improvement to report.
