Just an update

Got the kmc-21 now and had some unbelievable reports, I was told I didn't sound like I was on the md-380 and like a Base station, uncelicited reports that it sounded fantastic and one ham asked straight away what mic it was and went and bought one.

So if you want a good mic that's made well and works a treat then it could be in your choice.

Thanks Gary

Hi Gary

Was just reading your post about the microphone. Was it an authentic Kenwood KMC-21 mic that has the jack plug socket at the bottom for an earpiece ?

I got a new Retevis RT-3 (TYT MD-380) in the post today and the microphone i would say is a chinese copy. It looks like the Kenwood but doesn't have the jack plug socket for using an earpiece. They have even gone as far as printing KMC on the rear. A local ham says that when i plug in the external mic my audio muffles slightly. If yours is the authentic Kenwood then there is the difference. £8 versus £80 approx. !

I have a cheap Baofeng handmic that I used and the results were the same in that the TX and RX were muffled so it will depend on the quality of the microphone.

My test was with a Retevis RT-3, normally the audio is very clear and crisp on standard mic and speaker.

Edit I was looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-2-pin-VOX ... SwKIpWAQDn and may order in the next week and when it arrives I will test and give feedback.

Keen to hear your views on that headset. That could be a good job for Raynet work especially at the motorcycle races. Keep us posted. Thanks.
