Yes it frees up a radio, but becomes a handicap if not correctly programmed or does not fully integrate into an existing system..

All sorted guy that hires out the radios (a club member) has given me a little Icom, just means two radios when out on site.
Good news both my ham hand held and the Icom together feel lighter than the MD-390 but lose a bit on the build quality!!
Thanks for your replies/concern's, been around radio too long to mess about with public safety radios, what I was trying to do was with the full consent of management and the system owner.
