MD-380/390 continuous restart

Postby GM4MSH » Wed Jun 15, 2016 7:55 am

Hi (first post here) Took delivery of a spanking new MD-390, created a decent codeplug from scratch after watching you-tube instructions etc, and quite chuffed with myself.
I decided to take everyone's advice and update the firmware and all went well until the radio restarted...........
Now I turn it on, i get a beep and the welcome screen, wait 5 secs or so then "beep - welcome screen" - "beep - welcome screen" - "beep - welcome screen" - over and over.
I used http://www.va3xpr.net/programming-software-firmware/ to download the firmware as everyone seemed to point there and used the 2.34 firmware (not the experimental ones).
I've tried re-flashing the firmware back to all previous version but same result "beep - welcome screen" & repeat etc.
It's detected in USB ok, so not a driver issue, but it does appear and disappear in device manager (since it is cycling on and off itself) but that isn't the issue.
does anyone know this issue? - is there a fix?
is it possible to "factory reset the radio? - i've tried the power and top side button into programming mode but that doesn't work.
Is there a way to "root" the radio and reset it?
does anyone have an old firmware that works? - i have no idea what version this radio is at now.
I was able to push my codeplug into it via programming mode, but still the same "beep - welcome screen & repeat" exists.
I know it's an MD-390 but apart from the case and battery, it is the same radio as the MD-380/retevis RT3

I'm pretty adept in IT and quite convinced this isn't a driver issue, and is more a firmware/programming issue.
Any help, advice, step-by-step info or even files would be gladly accepted & welcomed :-)

thanks to all in advance.

Hi, I don't have a TYT radio but from what I have read they are pretty robust regarding uploading firmware versions, it could be that the radio has died from natural causes, this not an uncommon factor.. At this point you seem to have two choices, keep the radio for spares and move on or return radio for refund or replacement..
Sorry if this is a downbeat reply..

thanks Mike,
it's not "dead" per-say, it just keeps cycling thru the welcome screen, flicks off for a micro-second and then back on again :-/
I've contacted the seller and waiting a reply ........

Well....... therein lies the conundrum, seller was in NL and it was sent by NL post but the labels were all Chinese writing, so am beginning to think NL was just a staging-post, but will see - thanks thou.

If this is really an MD-390 then you will have caused this by putting MD-380 firmware in the radio.

The MD-390 comes from the factory with version D013.009 which is different from the D00x.0yz versions for the MD-380.

I suspect you're going to have to return it for reflashing, so far I have not seen any programming software or firmware binary images for the MD-390

Not normally a problem, the seller would have an agent in Holland and you would be covered by the distance selling regulations - as long as they don't cotton on that you have played with the firmware.. :o

thanks Brian, I'm starting to guess that, even though I had no error or "wrong version" messages :-/

Does anyone have a MD390 FW out there willing to download and share the bin file so that I can try that?

forever hopefully............

Could anyone download from their radio the boot file? and send it to me so I can see if that solves the issue?

pretty please :-)

Think like most radios, you can load firmware TO the radio but not download it from the radio, sorry..
